The TiVo Stream 4K has now officially launched and is available to buy online for $49.99. This is the latest streaming device to hit the market and one which could prove to be a popular option with consumers.

TiVo might be better known for its DVR, but over the last year the company has tried to increase its presence in the streaming world. Previous to the TiVo Stream 4K, the company released the TiVo Edge with different versions available for cord cutters and cable customers.

Unlike the Edge, the TiVo Stream 4K is all about a cable-free lifestyle. This is also a significantly cheaper device with the retail price coming in at $69.99. However, as part of the launch period, the company is offering its device at a discounted $49.99 rate. At this price, the TiVo Stream 4K would appear to be a highly competitively-priced streaming device.

What the TiVo Stream 4K offers

First off, the TiVo Stream 4K is a dongle-based device. In other words, there is no set-top box and instead, users plug the main unit directly into the TV, similar to how the Fire TV Stick and Roku Stick works.

In addition to its compact size and design, this is a device built for streamers. In particular, the TiVo Stream 4K plays very nicely with Sling TV. This is the TiVo preferred live TV streaming partner and therefore Sling TV customers will find they get a far more integrated and seamless experience, compared to subscribers of other live TV streaming services.

A major benefit of TiVo Stream 4K is that it also provides access to TiVo+. This is the company’s approach to AVOD with access to a wide selection of live channels and movies and shows through the on demand section, for free. In fact, earlier in the week, TiVo announced it was partnering with Pluto TV to expand the content available through the TiVo+ service even more.

What also might be of interest to some buyers is that the TiVo Stream 4K comes powered by Android TV. While this is more of a customized version, it does mean the streaming device also has direct and easy access to the Google Play Store and all the Android TV-optimized apps.

Other benefits include a more robust remote control complete with Google Assistant button, as well as 4K and support for Dolby Atmos sound and Dolby Vision HDR.

Overall, and at $49.99, the TiVo Stream 4K is now one of the cheapest Android TV devices you can buy over the counter, and should prove specifically beneficial to Sling TV subscribers.
