What You Need to Know

  • TiVo is launching a new AI tool called Agent TiVo to enable the use of natural language conversations to find content.
  • Other TiVo OS improvements include expanded channels, a redesigned guide, and enhanced sports discovery.
  • TiVo also said its software can now run on lower-cost devices, helping manufacturers reduce hardware expenses.

Following the general tech improvements in AI, streaming platforms have looked to utilize those improvements for discovery. On Google TV, for example, Gemini is now here, and much better at contextual understanding.

Agent TiVo will attempt to do the same thing for TiVo users. Once available, the general idea is that Agent TiVo will be better able at engaging in natural conversations, making it easier for users to search for content – even when they are unsure of what exactly they are searching for.

Instead of relying on traditional keyword searches, users will be able to generally describe what they are looking for and Agent TiVo will be able to understand the context and provide relevant recommendations.

TiVo announced the plans ahead of this weekend’s IFA 2026 event taking place in Berlin, and Agent TiVo was only one of many TiVo OS platform enhancements being showcased at this year’s event.

Others included an expansion of channels available through TiVo Channels, a redesigned program guide, new mini guide, and personalized content carousels.

As an extension of the discovery improvements, the company also explained how TiVo OS now provides an enhanced sports discovery experience, making it easier for sports fans to discover, follow, and access live games and events.

As the TV ecosystem evolves, consumers increasingly want a simpler, more intelligent way to discover and enjoy content, while manufacturers need greater flexibility, stronger economics and more control over their customer experience,” said Tal Bone, senior vice president and general manager of TiVo OS. “TiVo OS is uniquely positioned to meet those needs. By combining AI-powered discovery, an open and independent platform strategy, expanded content offerings, and a highly efficient operating system architecture, we’re creating the next generation of entertainment experiences that benefit viewers, partners, and the broader ecosystem.”

At a time when the likes of Apple, Amazon, Roku and Google have all increased the price of their hardware products, TiVo explained that it has also been heavily investing in platform efficiency. This has now led to a point where its OS can be deployed on devices with as little as 1 GB RAM and 4 GB eMMC.

Basically, the improved efficiency will allow partners to take advantage of reduced material costs, leading to better managing of rising hardware costs, and potential deployment across a wider range of smart TVs and devices.
