Apple has officially announced tvOS 27 and confirmed it will arrive later this year on Apple TV players. The new version of the operating system will unlock access to new features and improvements.
Confirmed during Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote event today, tvOS 27 is scheduled to be released in the fall.
In reality, the company didn’t spend much time talking about Apple TV today, not at all actually, with the event more more squarely focused on Siri AI and Apple Intelligence in general.
Due to this, we are going to have to wait a little longer to get a better idea of what can be expected with the next version of tvOS.
While details are limited, it can be assumed that Apple has built tvOS 27 with AI more in mind. A report from last week looked to confirm that the next Apple TV player had been delayed until the fall to coincide with the release of the new Siri, further pointing to a heaver reliance on the platform’s assistant.
In the meantime, and as is usually the case following the announcement of a new tvOS version, Apple has now released the first Developer Beta (24J5289o).
Due to how new the software is, the developer version isn’t designed for general consumption. Instead, Developer Betas are primarily intended for development and testing, and are not recommended to be installed on a daily Apple TV player.
The first public beta of tvOS 27 is expected to become available over the next few weeks, followed by the official release in the fall.
