Roku users who missed having access to the dedicated USA Network app will be happy to know it is back. This follows the removal of several network apps from the Roku platform late last year.

What You Need to Know

  • The standalone USA Network app has officially returned to the Roku Channel Store.
  • The app was previously removed as part of Comcast’s restructuring process and spin-off of select networks.
  • The return arrives just in time for the new Premier League season.

Comcast restructured its television portfolio by finalizing a spin-off of a number of networks, including CNBC, Syfy, and USA Network, into a separate entity earlier this year.

As part of that transition, apps related to these networks were removed from the Roku platform, including the standalone USA Network app.

With the spin-off completed earlier this year, the newly-created Versant company has been busy building its own digital ecosystem. For example, the USA Network app returned to platforms like Apple TV and Google Play Store over the past few months.

Although officially left out of those initial platform rollouts, the USA Network app has now made its way back to Roku Channel Store and once again can be downloaded on compatible devices.

The timing of the return is likely not a coincidence, as the Premier League officially returned this weekend. With many matches scheduled for broadcast on USA, and many live TV services offering TV Everywhere support, rolling out Roku platform support ensures Premier League fans have another option for streaming live matches.

Considering this app is built with TV Everywhere support in mind, Roku users downloading the app will need to have a compatible live TV streaming package that includes USA Network, and authenticate access using their live TV credentials before they can begin streaming content.
