Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Google TV, and LG TV users can now download a beta version of the new ‘X TV’ app on their streaming players and smart TVs.
As to be expected with a ‘TV’ app, X TV is designed to offer a video-first experience. So while you can still follow your favorite accounts, you will primarily be following videos published to those accounts.
Of course, with X now also home to a selection of original shows, users of the app will also now be able to watch those shows on the largest screen in their home.
It is worth keeping in mind that the app has only been released in beta, which means it is not quite the finished product. In addition to limited features, the beta status also means device support is a limited, with the app only available to download from the Amazon Appstore, Google Play Store and LG Content Store.
For those attempting to download the app on any other platform or device, including Apple TV, there is already a standard ‘X’ app available for smart TVs. The new app released this week is specifically labeled as ‘X TV‘, which should help to differentiate between the two apps.
From what we understand, X TV is also only currently available on supported devices in the United States.
As time goes on, and especially as the app exits its beta status, we would expect X TV to become more widely available at the device level, and potentially at the location level as well.
