Google TV users in the Unites States are beginning to receive ‘News Briefs.’ The AI-powered Briefs attempt to summarize the top news stories of the day and are updated throughout the day to provide access to the latest headlines.
News Briefs on Google TV were first announced earlier this month during Google’s CES 2025 event. Along with a number of other improvements announced at the same time, News Briefs are powered by Google’s own AI system, Gemini.
During its CES announcement, Google didn’t specify exactly when the Gemini upgrade and related improvements would begin rolling out, other than stating they would first arrive on “select” Google TV devices in 2025.
News Briefs now appears to be one of the first to roll out, albeit only to select users in the United States. For devices that are included in the initial rollout, News Briefs will be visible on the user’s ‘For You‘ page.
In addition to providing a summary of the news, News Briefs also surface various YouTube videos related to the top stories, making it easier for users to find more video-based information.
As Google has explained that News Briefs are currently considered to be an “experimental feature,” it is possible the feature could change, or be removed again, in the future, likely depending on their accuracy and popularity.
