Google TV is set to become a lot smarter later this year, and thanks to a Gemini AI upgrade. Once the upgrade goes live, users will be able to benefit from a number of improvements including more “natural conversations” with their TV.

The company confirmed the AI upgrade for Google TV during this year’s CES 2025 event.

For those unfamiliar with Gemini, this is Google’s latest AI system. Advertised as its “most capable and general model yet,” Gemini builds on previous AI systems to offer an experience that’s not only better at reasoning and understanding, but also engaging in natural conversations.

The ability to converse in more of a natural way should make search and discovery on Google TV much easier. As an example, receiving content recommendations based on longer and more detailed search queries.

The AI upgrade should also make it possible for users to ask more general and varied questions to Gemini. With Google TV being a TV-optimized system, Gemini should not only be capable of delivering appropriate answers, but also links to video content related to those answers.

Other benefits Google TV users can expect include the creation of customized artwork, AI-generated news summaries, and improved control over other smart home products.

While Google didn’t specify exactly when the upgrade would become available, the company did confirm support would begin rolling out to “select” Google TV devices in 2025.
