ABC News is launching a new weekday news show exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service. The new What You Need to Know series is due to make its debut on Disney+ next Monday (July 21).
Disney+ viewers can tune in each weekday at 6 a.m. ET from July 21st to watch the latest episode live. Following the live broadcast, each day’s episode will then remain available to stream on demand on Disney+ for 24 hours.
Hosted by chief international correspondent James Longman and senior political correspondent Rachel Scott, What You Need to Know marks the first ABC News original daily news program created specifically for Disney+.
“We are proud to launch this innovative series with Rachel and James, who meet viewers where they are with essential news, context and analysis to help them better understand the world around us,” Almin Karamehmedovic, president of ABC News, said in a release. “This new effort expands ABC News’ significant footprint on Disney+, allowing us to reach and connect with new and diverse audiences on the platform.”
The new show also appears to be made for the scrolling era, providing viewers with bite-sized coverage of breaking headlines, the day’s biggest stories, entertainment buzz, and viral videos.
“‘What You Need to Know’ is reimagining what a news experience can look like for Disney+ subscribers — delivering smart, bite-sized commentary on the stories that matter most,” Alisa Bowen, president of Disney+, said. “With the trusted voices of ABC News at the helm, this show marks an exciting evolution of our news offering.”
The addition of the new show marks the latest expansion of ABC News content on Disney+. Last year, Disney added ABC News Live, an around-the-clock streaming news channel, to the streaming service.
In addition to What You Need to Know, Disney+ subscribers can stream a variety of other ABC News programs, including Good Morning America, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, ABC News Live Prime with Linsey Davis, and Nightline.
