BritBox is the latest streaming service to increase the price of its plans. Following the price increase, a monthly subscription to the British TV streaming service now costs $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year.
Up until yesterday, BritBox was charging new users $7.99 a month. For those that prefer to pay for longer up front to save on the cost, the annual plan was priced at $79.99 a month, a saving of two months of the year.
Today, however, BritBox has updated its website to reflect the new higher prices. Anyone signing up today will pay $8.99 when subscribing to the monthly plan, which is a $1 per month increase.
From what we can tell so far, the price increase only seems to apply to subscribers based in the US, with subscription prices for all other countries currently the same as they were before.
While this price increase is already in effect for new subscribers, existing subscribers can expect to see their subscription cost increase at some point during the next month. As is typically the case with price increases, the exact date is dependent on the subscriber’s individual billing cycle.
While the annual plan has also increased to $89.99, BritBox is offering a limited-time $10 discount that keeps the price at $79.99 for now. This annual plan discount will only be available up until September 5, 2023.
Beginning September 6, 2023, all new and existing annual plan subscribers will be charged the new higher rate. Again, the exact date an existing annual plan subscriber will be charged $89.99 depends on when their subscription is due to renew after September 6th.
For reference, BritBox last raised the price of its plans in August 2022. Similar to this current price increase, the 2022 price increase resulted in the monthly subscription cost increasing by $1 a month. Likewise, the annual plan increased by $10 a year.
As a result of both of these price increases, the cost of a BritBox subscription has increased by $2 a month (and $20 a year) since July 31st, 2022.
