DirecTV launched a new ‘For the Birds‘ campaign earlier this year, designed to highlight that you don’t need a satellite to enjoy the company’s live TV service. DirecTV also employed the help of pigeons Bobby and Frank to launch the campaign, and now they’ve got backup in the form of football coach and hall of famer, Deion Sanders, aka ‘Coach Prime.’

Coach Prime joins the lineup ahead of the start of football season to further help raise awareness that DirecTV offers access to pro and college football, and as the latest TV spot is designed to highlight, satellite-free access to football.

America fell in love with Bobby and Frank when we made them the stars of our nationwide campaign earlier this year to educate consumers that DirecTV is available satellite-free,” said Vince Torres, chief marketing officer at DirecTV. “With Coach Prime, we’ve added a new confident and very astute bird to the flock who expresses his excitement over how DirecTV delivers an unparalled watching experience to sports fans.”

In the new 30-second TV spot, Frank and Bobby are becoming increasing frustrated with the lack of a satellite dish. However, Coach Prime arrives just in time to give Frank and Bobby a much-needed pep talk, while highlighting how the owners of the home are able to watch football without a satellite.

The latest TV spots also highlight the new DirecTV ‘Your TV’ interface, which recently started rolling out to select devices. Among the changes with the update is the introduction of a new Sports Central section, which makes it easier to find live sports programming and related content.

As a reminder, DirecTV offers two ways to watch without a satellite. There’s DirecTV via Internet for those that want a similar experience to the traditional DirecTV service, including one of the company’s Gemini devices, and then there’s DirecTV Stream for those that want a completely streaming-based solution, including the ability to use their own streaming player.
