DirecTV is now in the process of adding Curated Multiviews, allowing sports fans more options when it comes to watching multiple live feeds at the same time. The new feature is already rolling out but may take some time to reach all customers.

What You Need to Know

  • DirecTV has started rolling out an improved Multiview feature to eligible customers.
  • An upgrade on Mix channels, Curated Multiviews remove the need to search for a channel.
  • DirecTV says the rollout is expected to be completed later this month.

Technically, DirecTV already offers a Multiview feature. However, that version is primarily resigned to a very limited number of channels. Called Mix channels, DirecTV users can switch to these channels and watch whatever live feeds are being shown at the time.

Not only were these channels limited in number, but sometimes they were only available for a short period of time or specific event – as was the case earlier this year with DirecTV’s March Madness Mix channel.

DirecTV’s new Curated Multiview feature appears to be a clear upgrade on Mix channels and brings the service’s experience far more in line with the Multiview features offered by competing services, including Fubo and YouTube TV.

Basically, DirecTV users will now find curated multiview options directly in the Sports section (Sports Central) of the app, completely removing the need to search for a channel.

As these are curated, the combination of live feeds are still determined by DirecTV, meaning users still can’t choose the exact mix of live feeds they want to watch.

Instead, DirecTV says each multiview will feature live games built around that day’s matchups and from the networks already included in the user’s package.

Considering these multiviews are directly tied to a user’s live TV package, they will only see the ability to watch more than one live game when networks included in the user’s package are showing games, and those games are available locally in the user’s location.

In addition to accessing the new feature through Sports Central, viewers will also now begin seeing a new ‘Multiview‘ button in the video player when watching a live game.

Clicking on the button will immediately redirect the viewer to Multiview mode, making it possible to easily switch between one and multiple games when available.

While Curated Multiviews are now in the process of rolling out, DirecTV confirmed the rollout will continue over the next couple of weeks. All eligible customers expected to receive access to the new feature by August 27 – just in time for football season.
