DirecTV has now launched a new ‘MySports’ package to offer sports fans the option of a live TV plan that’s specifically focused on sports channels and programming. In total, subscribers to the MySports package get access to 40 sports and broadcast channels at launch.
Priced at $69.99 a month, the new plan unlocks access to a variety of national sports channels including ACC Network, Big Ten Network, ESPN, Fox Sports, MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NHL Network, TBS, and TNT, among others.
Back in September of last year, DirecTV agreed a new distribution deal with Disney. The deal not only resulted in the restoration of dropped channels, but also confirmed plans for DirecTV to begin offering genre-specific packages, including sports. The launch of MySports would appear to be the first of these skinnier and themed packages.
In celebration of the launch, new subscribers have the option to sign up for the new MySports package at just $49.99 a month for the first three months. This discounted price results in a $20 saving on the standard monthly price, and $60 over the course of the first three months.
New subscribers have up until Feb. 28 to sign up at the discounted rate.
One of the downsides right now is that the MySports package is only available in select locations, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area. While availability is expected to improve over time, only those living in one of 24 metro areas currently have the option to sign up to the new sports-focused plan.
The launch of the new service comes just days after Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed they were discontinuing plans to launch their joint Venu Sports streaming service.
While Venu Sports is no longer launching, many of the channels now available through DirecTV’s new MySports package were also expected to be available through the Venu Sports streaming service.
