You Can’t Get Discovery+ on PlayStation 4 or 5 (& Might Not Soon)

Discovery+ PS4 PS5

Discovery+ is currently unavailable on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles and it remains to be seen if that is going to change anytime soon. However, Discovery+ is available on a number of other platforms and devices. PS4 and PS5 owners will want to consider using one of these alternate options, instead of waiting on PlayStation support to arrive.

Discovery+ can be a great option for those looking to save on the cost of streaming popular TV shows. A subscription provides access to a variety of Discovery-owned networks, including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, HGTV, and ID among others. In total, the service launched with streaming access to more than 2,500 shows, and over 55,000 episodes overall.

In spite of the wide selection of shows, Discovery+ is still a new service compared to others. This inevitably means it is limited in certain respects and one of those is device support. In general, Discovery+ did launch with a reasonable number of compatible devices, resulting in many of the most popular platforms and players able to stream the service.

No PlayStation Discovery+ support

Sony’s PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles were not part of Discovery+’s supported devices at launch. Furthermore, neither of the game consoles have gained support since then, leaving owners of a PS4 and PS5 unable to stream Discovery+ networks and shows on their preferred device. Looking forward, it is also unclear if and when the two PlayStation devices will gain Discovery+ support.

Neither company has officially stated whether support is coming or even if it is being worked on at the moment. Furthermore, although Discovery+ and Discovery Go are not the same service, the Discovery family of Go apps have been around for quite some time and they are still not compatible with the PlayStation 4 or the newer PlayStation 5.

Due to these points, PS4 and PS5 owners should not necessarily wait on PlayStation support to go live soon. If accessing Discovery+ is a priority, then consumers are better off checking whether any of the other devices in their home are compatible with the service and using them instead.

Alternative options for PS4 and PS5 owners

Although Discovery+ is not available on either PlayStation console, the service can be accessed on many other devices. For example, if access to an Xbox is available, then Discovery+ can be streamed on Microsoft’s Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

If a household does not have access to any of Microsoft’s game consoles, then another option is a dedicated streaming player. Discovery+ is compatible with many players and sticks, including multiple Fire TV and Roku models. Alternatively, a number of smart TVs, including Samsung TVs, are also able to download the Discovery+ app, without the need for an additional device to be included in the setup.

Lastly, Discovery+ networks and shows can also be watched on smartphones and tablets, as well as on PCs and laptops through a number of popular web browsers, including Chrome and Safari.

Discovery+ PlayStation 4 and 5 summary

Discovery+ is currently unavailable on both of Sony’s popular PlayStation consoles. Neither company has confirmed whether PS4 and PS5 support will go live anytime soon. Due to this, anyone looking to stream Discovery+ as soon as possible will want to consider using an alternate device.

In general, Discovery+ comes with a decent level of device support and apps are available for smart TVs, streaming players, smartphones and tablets. Discovery+ networks and shows can also be streamed directly through a web browser. As a result, those interested in subscribing to Discovery+ should not find it too difficult to find an alternative device to their PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Under no circumstances will I EVER own an xbox. So it’s just a matter of waiting and hoping for me

    1. Sucks to be you. You really should learn to open your mind a little because you’re missing out on a whole world of gaming. But hey, continue to be a Pony, what do I care?

      1. Exactly. I stream on both consoles but find that Microsoft consoles work better with most streaming apps. To each his own.

  2. This is so unfortunate. I personally use ONLY my PS4 to stream. I don’t have WiFi (I use my hotspot from my cell service). So I can’t use the workaround methods. Not having the Discovery+ app on PS4 is truly unfortunate. Especially since so many programs have switched to that platform. I hope they both will come to a contractual agreement soon. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has the same issue/frustration.

    1. You are definitely not the only one! I only have a ps4 as well and my TV doesnt have the app on it to download so it’s just the waiting game to get it on the ps4. I’m hoping it will be soon cause now the shows I watch are not on Hulu or they wait two years to put a season on. And I’m not going out to buy another product just to get this app. They are going to lose out on a lot of customers with ps4, so stinks to be them.

    2. If you have Amazon Prime, you can add discovery+ for $6.99/month and watch all the same content through your prime app on PS4
