Discovery+ is available to download and install on Samsung smart TVs, making it easy to stream all of the networks and shows available with a subscription. Although not all models might be compatible with the app, it is easy enough to check directly on the TV. In cases where a Samsung TV is not currently supported, there are some additional options for streaming Discovery+ on the TV.
Discovery+ is one of the newer streaming services to arrive and it is already making an impact, thanks to the selection of networks and shows included with a subscription. Discovery+ costs $4.99 per month with ads or $6.99 for an ad-free experience. Once the app has been downloaded on a Samsung TV, the user will want to make sure they have a subscription set up, so they can sign in and start streaming.
With Discovery+ being a newer service, it is somewhat limited in certain respects, compared to longer established services. A prime example of this is device support with some notable platforms and devices missing, although that’s not really a major issue for Samsung TV owners. Outside of TVs powered by either Amazon Fire TV, Android TV or Roku, Samsung is one of the only major TV brands that’s currently compatible with Discovery+.
However, that does not automatically mean that every Samsung TV can download the app. For anyone unsure of whether their TV is supported, one of the easiest ways to check is to simply try and download the Discovery+ app.
How To Download Discovery+ On Samsung TV
Downloading and installing the Discovery+ app on a Samsung TV works exactly the same way any other app. Those familiar with the process can simply search for the app through the Samsung app store and install it as usual. For those less familiar with downloading apps directly on a Samsung TV, the instructions are pretty straightforward and should only take a few minutes to complete.
Downloading Discovery+ from TV home screen:
- Navigate to “Apps”
- Select “Apps”
- Click on the Search icon (top-right corner)
- Search for “Discovery+”
- Select Discovery+ from the results list
- Click Install
There are two main ways to find the Discovery+ app once it has been downloaded on a Samsung TV. The first is to simply press the Home button and check to see if the Discovery+ app is listed in the Home menu. If it is, navigate to the app using the remote control and click on the icon to open the app. The other option is to access the ‘Apps’ section (where the app was originally installed from) and then select it from the list of installed apps.
Once the Discovery+ app is downloaded and installed on a Samsung smart TV, the user will need to have an active Discovery+ subscription before they can actually start watching. The app itself is free to download, but users will need to enter their subscription credentials to unlock access to the various Discovery+ networks and shows.
If the Discovery+ app does not show up when performing the search, then this most likely means the Samsung TV is currently not compatible with the Discovery+ app. Whether that changes in time is unknown, but the TV user can repeat the steps above at any time to see if the support is available.
Alternative options for Samsung TV owners
If a specific Samsung smart TV does not currently support Discovery+ or if there’s another reason why a TV user doesn’t want to directly download the Discovery+ app on their device, then there are some additional options available.
One of the easiest ways to watch Discovery+ on a Samsung TV outside of the app is to connect a streaming player or stick. Amazon Fire TV devices, Roku players and Chromecast all also support Discovery+, among others. Depending on the device, the user may need to download the Discovery+ app from the respective app store.
Another option is to check whether the TV comes with any additional screen mirroring support. Most Samsung TVs offer a general ‘screen mirroring’ option which allows the user to mirror another device’s screen to the TV. Support for this feature varies by device, but can be a way to stream Discovery+ from a smartphone or a Windows 10 device to a Samsung TV.
Likewise, select newer Samsung TVs also come with AirPlay 2 support, making this an easy way to stream iOS apps from an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook directly to the TV, including Discovery+.
Discovery+ on Samsung TV summary
Discovery+ networks and shows can be easily watched on many Samsung smart TVs simply by downloading the app from the Samsung app store. The instructions to do this are the same for any other app installed on a Samsung smart TV and mostly just involve searching for the app and then installing it. Once installed, the user will need to sign in with their Discovery+ subscription details before they can start streaming.
For any Samsung TVs that are unable to download the Discovery+ app directly, there are some additional options available, such as using a separate streaming player or stick. Or, checking if the Samsung TV supports any casting solutions, including screen mirroring or AirPlay 2.
