Discovery+ is currently offering a 30-percent discount on longer-term ad-free subscriptions when they are purchased as a gift. This can be a great way to save on a subscription, whether it is for yourself or someone else.

Discovery+ launched in January and is available in two main plan options. Consumers can either pay $4.99 per month for the ad-supported plan or pay $6.99 per month to go ad-free instead. In addition, there is also the option to sign up and be billed annually.

For a limited time, Discovery+ has discounted the annual ad-free plan by 30-percent when it is given as a gift. If one year is too long, there is also the option to subscribe for just six months and still get the same 30-percent discount. With the discount applied, the yearly ad-free subscription costs $59 while the six-month plan is reduced down to $29.

The deal requires the recipient’s name and email address, along with payment for the longer period in full, when signing up through the Discovery+ website. The recipient’s email address can be skipped if opting to print the gift subscription, although the user will still need to provide an email address to receive the gift certificate. Therefore, if looking to gift to an existing subscriber, an alternate email address to the one currently used to access Discovery+ will likely need to be used.

Discovery+ 30% deal caveats

Besides the need to pay now for the longer period in advance, there are some additional caveats to be aware of. Firstly, the promotion is designed for new subscribers, so existing subscribers cannot add the longer subscription to their current subscription. They will need to cancel first and then use an alternate email address when using the gift certificate. In addition, the gift subscription cannot be combined with any other promotion and won’t come with the same seven-day free trial that’s available when signing up normally.

Another caveat of sorts, is that the deal is only for the ad-free plan as there’s no option to sign up to the cheaper ad-supported subscription at an even lower cost. With the discounted price coming in at $29 for six months or $59 for the year, the cost equates to $5 per month, which is the same price as the monthly ad-supported plan. In other words, this might be a good way to upgrade from the ad-supported access to Discovery+ networks to an ad-free experience, without having to pay the higher price each month.

Lastly, while Discovery+ doesn’t specify exactly when the promotion will end, it is being advertised as a Valentine’s Day deal. Making it a safe bet that it will be available up until February 14, 2021.

We decided to subscribe to Discovery Plus (we are new) and found a 30% discount offer, but have been unable to access the code in order to order the ad-free version at the discount. It did say available for Valentines Day, but there is no closing date for the offer. Please advise if we can still get the discount, as we are ready to start the subscription. Thanks in advance.
