Discovery+ is now streaming providing subscribers with access to a variety of popular networks, including HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, Animal Planet, Discovery and more. The new streaming service offers both ad-supported and ad-free plans.
The Discovery streaming service has taken its time in arriving, although it does come with enough of a unique selling point that it will appeal to a variety of streamers. With a clear focus on real-life entertainment, Discovery+ has launched with access to more than 55,000 episodes from over 2,500 current and classic shows.
Discovery+ can cost as little as $4.99 per month, providing the subscriber is willing to watch ads. Alternatively, for $6.99 per month, consumers can sign up to the ad-free version and skip the commercials altogether. Regardless of which plan a consumer subscribes to, there is the option of a seven-day free trial available.
Select Verizon Unlimited plan, Fios Home Internet and 5G Home customers do have the option of getting Discovery+ for free for the first twelve months. This Verizon promotion is for the ad-free version of the service, resulting in a saving of $6.99 per month.
Is Discovery+ worth a subscription?
With the price starting at $4.99 per month, Discovery+ is likely to be a popular option for many. However, whether it is worth a subscription will likely depend on any other subscriptions that are in use at the same time.
A number of these networks are included with various live TV subscriptions, offering access to not only episodes that are shown live, but also on demand as well. For those with a live TV subscription, there may not be a need for this additional subscription at the same time.
However, if a consumer is lacking any of the individual networks that are available through Discovery+, then it may be worth paying the $5 per month for direct and unlimited streaming access to shows. Either way, with seven days available for free, consumers do have the opportunity to check the service out and see if Discovery+ is right for them without paying.
