Discovery+ will be available on Vizio SmartCast TVs by September, according to the two companies. This additional device support not only represents an expansion for the streaming service, but also one for Vizio TV app support as well.

Discovery+ is a popular option for those interested in reality TV and true crime content, thanks to the ability to watch shows and movies from many popular ViacomCBS networks through the service. However, that is as long as Discovery+ is readily available on a device in the home. While the supported device list is substantial and includes many of the most popular platforms and devices, it has been missing some including Vizio SmartCast TVs.

That’s now changing with the list of compatible devices set to expand to include Vizio TVs. The announcement confirms that the app should be readily available to download and install on Vizio SmartCast TVs by next month. The joint announcement further explains that once live, millions of viewers will have the option to watch Discovery+ on their Vizio TV.

Previously, Vizio TV owners have had to make use of alternate methods to watch Discovery+ content on their device, such as casting from another device, or subscribing to Discovery+ through Amazon Prime Channels. However, with the app now due to become available in the coming weeks, Vizio TV users will simply be able to download Discovery+ the same way they would with any other app available on the platform.

Once live, and if signing up as a new subscriber, Vizio SmartCast TV owners will have to choose between the two main Discovery+ plans. Priced at $4.99 and $6.99 per month, the major difference between the two is the inclusion of ads. Regardless of which plan is chosen, Discovery+ does come with a seven-day free trial to allow consumers to check whether it is the right streaming service for them.

While the agreement between two the companies does plug a support gap for both, there are still gaps that need plugging in general. For example, Discovery+ remains unavailable on Sony’s PlayStation consoles. At the same time, the HBO Max app remains unavailable to download on Vizio’s line of SmartCast TVs.
