Disney Plus new Verts Feature

Disney+ is about to get a massive injection of TikTok content. Thanks to a new content-sharing deal between Disney and TikTok, Disney+ users will soon have access to a selection of Disney-Centric TikToks directly in the Disney+ app.

What You Need to Know

  • Disney will begin adding fan‑created short‑form videos from TikTok to the Disney+ app.
  • The creator content will be accessible through the Verts feed and continue to be available in the TikTok app.
  • The new content-sharing agreement means TikTok creators will gain access to a wide range of Disney assets to produce new vertical videos.

According to the details, the content-sharing will be piloted in the U.S. in the coming months. At which point, the Disney+ app will start to incorporate what Disney says will be “an expansive collection of thoughtfully curated Disney-centric fan-created content from TikTok.”

Earlier this year, Disney+ added a new Verts feature. Similar to how TikTok works in general, Verts is a feed of vertical videos accessible in the mobile app.

It is this Verts feed where Disney+ app users can now expect to see TikTok content, consisting of short-form videos from participating creators who have opted-in to the program.

While this content will be accessible via the Verts feed in the Disney+ app, it will continue to be available in the TikTok app as well.

Creators are at the heart of everything we do at TikTok. Their creativity extends the life of films and shows into conversations that fans discover and share,” said Dawn Yang, Global Head of Entertainment, TikTok. “Together with Disney, we’re bringing the authentic creator expression of the TikTok community to Disney+, inviting audiences to experience the shared creativity that makes fandom so powerful.”

The short-form videos won’t only center on core Disney programming, but also content from other brands owned by Disney, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX and so on.

In an attempt to ensure creators have enough content to work with, Disney says TikTok creators will be gaining access to assets related to hundreds of films and series from Disney’s library.

The best storytellers are fans first,” said Asad Ayaz, Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “That has always been true at Disney, and today, fans are celebrating our stories in entirely new ways. This collaboration creates a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity they inspire, giving creators a bigger stage to share what they’ve made, and audiences more to discover on Disney+ every day.”

Initially piloting in the U.S., Disney has confirmed the plan is to then roll out fan-created TikTok content to the Disney+ app in other markets.
