ESPN Plus doesn’t offer a free trial. More accurately, ESPN Plus doesn’t offer a free trial anymore. While many streaming services do offer a way to watch for free as a method of allowing consumers to test out their service, a growing number of them are starting to remove the option. ESPN Plus is one of those that did but no longer offers a free trial to consumers.
ESPN Plus is a good option for consumers that are looking to stream sports over the internet. Even though it is not the same as ESPN, the Plus version does open the door to plenty of additional sports content including original programming. However, it is an extra cost that streamers will need to decide whether they are willing to pay each month for access.
A free trial can be a great way to test out a service before having to start actually paying for a subscription. While plenty of services do offer a free trial, ESPN Plus is not one of them. The service did previously offer a free trial, but removed the option back in 2020. When signing up through the ESPN website today, consumers will need to make the first monthly payment before they are able to watch any of the live or on-demand sports. Similar to ESPN Plus, Disney Plus and Hulu Live TV also no longer offer a free trial and that’s not a coincidence. The Walt Disney Company owns ESPN Plus, Disney Plus and Hulu, making this more of a company decision than one that’s specific to ESPN Plus. This also likely suggests that the option of a free trial won’t be returning to ESPN Plus any time soon.
Disney Bundle might Be An ESPN+ solution
Depending on a consumer’s situation, and the streaming services they are already signed up to, the Disney Bundle could actually result in a free ESPN+ subscription. This won’t be an option for everyone, but for those that are already signed up to basic Hulu and Disney+, it will be worth considering. In fact, even if only signed up to one of these services, it may still be worth added the two additional subscriptions. Here’s why.
The standard ESPN Plus subscription costs $6.99 per month. In contrast, the Disney Bundle costs $13.99 per month and provides access to Disney+, basic Hulu, and ESPN+. Considering a Disney Plus subscription costs $7.99 per month and Basic Hulu costs $6.99 per month, those already subscribed to both of these services are already paying $14.98 per month. By switching to the Disney Bundle, subscribers not only save on the monthly cost but also get ESPN Plus for free. Once the consumer has switched over to the Disney Bundle, they can simply use the same account details to log in to the ESPN apps or website.
As mentioned, even if only subscribed to one of these services then it may still be worth considering upgrading to the Disney Bundle. If, for example, a household is already paying $7.99 for Disney+, that same home could gain access to both Hulu and ESPN Plus for an additional $6 per month. At this point, it is essentially a buy one, get one deal. Of course, if not already paying for either of these subscriptions, and there’s no intention to start paying for either of them, then the Disney Bundle is not going to be much help in getting ESPN Plus.
If a Verizon wireless customer, however, it may actually be possible to get ESPN Plus, and the entire Disney Bundle, for free. This promotion only applies to the 5G Get More or 5G Play More Verizon plans, but those customers are eligible to get the Disney Bundle at no extra charge. If on one of these eligible plans, the option to add the Disney Bundle should be available within the customer’s Verizon account settings.
ESPN Plus free trial summary
ESPN Plus doesn’t offer a free trial. The service used to but removed the option back in 2020. Since then, there has been no option for consumers to test ESPN Plus out before having to pay. Although free trials are a handy way to check out a new service, a growing number of popular streaming services have started removing the option. For example, consumers are now unable to sign up for a free trial at ESPN Plus, HBO Max, Disney Plus and Netflix, among others.
That said, there are some general options for getting ESPN Plus for free. For example, if already signed up to Hulu and Disney+, then simply switching to the Disney Bundle will result in access to ESPN Plus at no additional monthly cost. Better still, the entire Disney Bundle is free through Verizon for those on an eligible mobile plan.
