DirecTV Stream subscribers can cancel their subscription but only through the website or through the mobile app. There’s currently no option to cancel directly on a smart TV or a streaming player. In most cases, canceling the subscription will also require a chat with a representative.

DirecTV Stream is one of a handful of live TV streaming services that consumers can currently choose from. For some homes, the choice of channel lineups might make it the best option. For others, however, the price of the various plans might be a little too high, or the more limited device support that DirecTV Stream offers may prove to be an issue. Whatever the reason, the best way to cancel a DirecTV Stream subscription is directly through the DirecTV Stream website.

After canceling DirecTV Stream, the user will still retain access for the remainder of their current billing cycle. It is only once this date rolls around when the subscription will be fully canceled. In the meantime, subscribers can continue to watch the various live TV channels, their DVR recordings, and on-demand videos. Subscribers also have this remaining period to undo the cancelation and reactivate their live TV subscription without incurring an interruption to their service.

Canceling a subscription can be done on any device that has access to the internet, but a desktop or mobile device will be the best option. Regardless of the device, the option to cancel the subscription can be found in the ‘Manage My Subscription’ section of the settings.

Cancel DirecTV Stream: website

  1. Visit DirecTV Stream
  2. Sign in if required
  3. Click on the Settings icon (top right corner)
  4. Click on ‘Account Details’ (under Account)
  5. Click on ‘Manage My Subscription’ (under ‘My TV Subscription’)
  6. Click on ‘Cancel Subscription’ (under ‘Current TV Subscription’)

Normally, this is all that’s required to cancel a streaming service, but DirecTV Stream makes things a little more complicated by requiring subscribers to have a chat with a representative. After clicking on ‘Cancel Subscription’ the subscriber will need to then click on ‘Chat to cancel’ and confirm the cancelation with an AT&T representative.

Cancel using the mobile app

It is also possible to cancel a subscription through the DirecTV Stream app. However, this is only possible through the mobile app. None of the supported smart TV or streaming player apps currently offer an option to cancel. If using a smartphone, the exact instructions may differ slightly from what’s listed below, depending on the platform and app version.

Cancel DirecTV Stream: mobile app

  1. Open DirecTV Stream
  2. Tap the Settings icon (top right corner)
  3. Tap Account
  4. Tap ‘See Account Details’
  5. Sign in if required,
  6. Tap ‘Manage My Subscription’ (under ‘My TV Subscription’)
  7. Tap ‘Cancel Subscription’ (under ‘Current TV Subscription’)

Once again, the user will be presented with the option to ‘Chat to cancel’ or ‘Keep my subscription’ with no obvious option to just cancel. Clicking on ‘Chat to cancel’ will launch a small chat window where the request to cancel can be confirmed and completed.

As is the case when canceling through the website, the subscription is not technically ended when canceling DirecTV Stream through the mobile app. Instead, the subscriber is able to continue using the DirecTV service up until the date when they normally would be making the next payment. At which point, the subscription will fully be canceled.

Cancel DirecTV Stream summary

DirecTV Stream can be canceled through the website using any web-enabled device or through the app on a mobile device such as a smartphone. The option to cancel can be found under ‘Manage My Subscription’ in the Account section of the DirecTV Stream settings menu. At present, it is not possible to cancel the live TV subscription directly through the app on a smart TV or streaming player.

Once canceled, the subscription will still be active up until the end of the current billing cycles. This exact date will vary depending on when the subscriber first signed up and started paying for the service. During this time, the subscriber can continue to watch DirecTV Stream’s live TV, on-demand videos and recordings.
