Hulu Live TV had four million subscribers at the end of the second calendar quarter of 2022. This indicates that the popular live TV streaming service saw a decrease in subscribers compared to the quarter before. Considering the previous quarter had already seen a decrease of its own, this marks the second consecutive quarter that Hulu Live TV has dropped subscribers.

At the last count, Hulu Live TV ended the first quarter of 2022 with 4.1 million subscribers, and while an impressive number, it was a decline compared to the 4.3 million the live TV service had at the end of 2021. Also at the end of last year, Hulu Live TV increased the cost of the base subscription, which may have impacted on the number of subscribers in the first quarter of the year.

The Walt Disney Company has now confirmed that Hulu ended the second calendar quarter (Disney’s fiscal Q3) of 2022 with 4 million subscribers. The number was reported as part of Disney’s latest quarterly earnings report, and indicates Hulu Live TV lost around 100,000 subscribers compared to the first calendar quarter of the year. In spite of the quarterly drop, Hulu Live TV did see a year-over-year increase, considering the service ended the same quarter of 2021 with 3.7 million subscribers.

The same earnings report also confirmed that, as of July 2nd, 2022, there were approximately 42.2 million basic Hulu subscribers. This brings the total number of Hulu subscribers (basic and live TV) to 46.2 million, and represents a year-over-year increase compared to the 42.8 million reported for the same quarter in 2021.

Compared to the rest of the industry, Hulu Live TV is maintaining its position as one of the most popular live TV streaming services in the US. YouTube TV recently confirmed that it had passed 5 million subscribers putting it in first place. Sling TV also recently confirmed its subscriber base stood at over two million, placing it someway behind Hulu Live TV. Elsewhere, fuboTV is hovering around the 1 million marker. When it comes to DirecTV Stream, subscribers remain a little less clear due to the way the company reports its numbers. Either way, it is understood to be far behind the likes of Hulu Live TV.
