Max subscribers signed up to the ‘with ads’ plan (Basic With Ads) are set to lose access to the B/R Sports and CNN Max add-ons next month. The loss of the add-ons is part of a wider change to integrate live sports and news content within the existing Max experience.

While the initial plan was to charge an additional $9.99 a month for the B/R Sports add-on, Warner Bros. Discovery today confirmed that it has now abandoned that plan. Instead, content from both B/R Sports and CNN Max will continue to remain available at no cost with a base Max subscription.

However, that is only for ad-free (Standard and Premium) subscribers. For those signed up to the ad-supported tier, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that B/R Sports and CNN Max will no longer be available beginning March 30, 2025.

Furthermore, as Max has abandoned plans to charge for this content in general, there will be no option to pay extra each month to add either B/R Sports or CNN Max to the ‘with ads’ plan.

With no option to add either add-on, as they are technically no longer even add-ons, ad-supported subscribers will need to consider upgrading to an ad-free tier to retain access to live sports and/or news content.

While the Basic With Ads plan currently costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, the Standard ad-free plan costs $16.99 a month or $169.99 a year. Alternatively, the Premium ad-free plan costs $20.99 a month or $209.99 a year.

The main differences with the more expensive Premium plan is the ability to stream in 4K (where available), Dolby Atmos support, and the option to stream on even more devices at the same time.
