Sling TV closed the third quarter of 2022 with 2.41 million subscribers, an increase on the previous quarter. Even though the number of Sling TV subscribers has fluctuated each quarter over the past few years, it has remained relatively the same overall. This is in contrast to the likes of YouTube TV which only seems to increase in the number of subscribers each year.
One of Sling TV’s strongest selling points is the price. While some other services charge $70 and higher for live TV each month, Sling’s plans start at just $35 per month. This can make Sling TV a good option for those looking to switch from one of the other services to save on the monthly cost of live TV. In spite of the price difference, Sling TV hasn’t seen any significant increases over the past year.
Q3 2022 ended with 2.41 million Sling TV subscribers, according to Dish Network. This is an increase of around 210,000 when compared to the 2.2 million subscribers reported at the end of the second quarter. However, if compared to the previous year, the 2.41 million represents a decrease. Sling TV closed out the third quarter of 2021 with 2.56 million subscribers.
Dish also closed out the latest quarter with 7.61 million Dish TV customers, resulting in a total of 10.02 million pay-TV subscribers overall. While the latest Dish numbers represent an overall increase of 30,000 compared to the second quarter of 2022, this was thanks to the gains that Sling TV made. Dish TV saw a quarter-over-quarter decrease of around 180,000 subscribers. It is also an overall decrease when compared to the 10.98 million pay-TV subscribers at the end of the third quarter of 2021.
In comparison to the rest of the live TV streaming market, Sling TV remains firmly in third place. At last count, YouTube TV was serving more than 5 million subscribers while Hulu Live TV was providing live TV to more than four million. Separate numbers for DirecTV Stream (formerly AT&T TV) are no longer provided, but DirecTV Stream is understood to be serving live TV to fewer homes than fuboTV. At the end of the third quarter of 2022, fuboTV had more than 1.2 million subscribers, up from 947,000 at the end of Q2, 2022.
