To ensure its users get the smoothest and safest experience possible, Surfshark has now launched a new version of its Fire TV app. One that’s specifically designed with Amazon’s Vega OS in mind.
What You Need to Know
- Surfshark has launched a redesigned VPN app optimized specifically for Vega OS.
- The Vega‑optimized app currently only supports core VPN functions, but more advanced features are expected to roll out over time.
- The new app is now available to download from the Amazon Appstore on compatible devices.
Amazon made a major change recently, replacing the Android-based operating system of its Fire TV devices with its own Linux-based Vega OS.
While only the newest versions of its Fire TV devices are currently running on the new operating system, the number of people who eventually will be using Vega OS is expected to climb massively over time.
According to Surfshark, the launch of Vega OS required the company to develop a completely new app for its virtual private network.
So that’s exactly what the company has now done, with the new Vega OS version now available to download on compatible devices from the Amazon Appstore.
“We worked on the new Vega OS app with our ‘online security made easy’ mindset. By encrypting all your streaming activity, the VPN fully protects you from snoopers like internet service providers, third parties, and bad actors. This ensures your traffic is secure, and your streaming habits and personal data are private, known only to you,” explains Justas Pukys, Senior Product Manager at Surfshark.
While now available, and tailored exactly to the new operating system, it would seem the Vega OS app is currently limited in terms of functionality, only offering access to core VPN capabilities.
As time goes on, it is expected that the app will mature and evolve to be more in line with the Android-based Fire OS version.
In the meantime, this latest version of the Surfshark app is designed and optimized specifically for those that have purchased a Vega OS Fire TV device recently.
