YouTube TV has just increased in price. Following rumors suggesting the cost of a subscription would increase soon, YouTube has now officially confirmed the price increase. In fact, the higher rate has already gone into effect for new subscribers.

Beginning today (Dec. 12), a YouTube TV subscription costs $82.99 a month, resulting in a $10 price increase over the previous $72.99/mo rate. To help offset the cost, YouTube TV is offering a limited-time discount on the first three months.

After the first three months new subscribers will begin paying the new $82.99/mo price. As this promotion is only available through Jan. 12, those signing up on or after Jan. 13 will immediately begin paying the new price, pending any promotions and/or free trials.

In terms of existing subscribers, YouTube has confirmed that the cost of their subscription will also increase next month. Typical of price increases like this, YouTube is giving existing subscribers a month to adjust to the new pricing, which means existing subscribers won’t begin paying $82.99/mo before Jan. 13, 2025.

The exact date any individual subscriber is due to begin paying the higher rate will depend on their individual billing cycle, and this can be checked in the Membership section of the settings.

According to YouTube, the price increase is the result of its own increasing costs.

Due to the rising cost of content, we’ve updated our membership pricing to reflect the complete value of YouTube TV. The new price for a Base Plan is $82.99 per month. This change has been implemented since December 12, 2024,” a new help post explains.

At the new price, YouTube TV is once again one of the more costly services around, competing on price with the cheapest packages from DirecTV Stream ($87/mo) and Hulu Live TV ($83/mo). Both DirecTV and Hulu Live TV also increased in price earlier this year.

In general, YouTube TV is not a service that typically increases in price very often. Considering the previous price increase took effect in March 2023, the current increase arrives a little under two years later.

Of course, the slower frequency of price increase is unlikely to be much consolation for those unhappy with YouTube TV’s latest price increase.
