The free streaming service Tubi has partnered with ChatGPT to make it easier for those using the AI chatbot to find content to watch. The launch of an app inside the chatbot makes Tubi the first streamer to bring content discovery directly into the conversational ChatGPT interface.
Key Takeaways
- Tubi has launched a ChatGPT app, with the app now available to add through the ChatGPT app store.
- Users can ask ChatGPT for personalized viewing suggestions, even with highly vague or specific prompts.
- Along with a curated list of results, ChatGPT users will be presented with “Watch on Tubi” links so they can jump straight in and start streaming.
Tubi is a great option for streaming. With more than 300,000 movies and TV episodes to choose from, the free streaming service has plenty of content.
Arguably, too much content, and unless you happen to enjoy falling down a Tubi rabbit hole, or playing Tubi roulette, it can be difficult at times to choose from the vast library.
One way users can now help to narrow down the library list is ChatGPT. Thanks to the launch of a new app inside ChatGPT, it is now possible to simply ask the AI chatbot to help find something to watch.
To get started, simply add the Tubi app from the ChatGPT app store and type @Tubi into ChatGPT along with a brief description of what you are looking for.
The AI chatbot will then provide you with curated results that match your description, all of which are available to stream on Tubi.
“Streaming should feel effortless, and as chatbots and AI agents are becoming a common way people navigate the internet, Tubi is expanding its discovery experience to meet viewers in the moment they’re expressing intent in their own words,” said Mike Bidgoli, Chief Product and Technology officer at Tubi.
While searching on Google normally is another way to find something to watch, AI chatbots like ChatGPT tend to be better at understanding context and, in particular, vague descriptions.
In one example provided by Tubi, the app inside ChatGPT can be used to search for “a movie that feels like a fever dream but isn’t horror.”
As importantly, the returned list of results can then be further refined by following up with additional description and filter prompts.
For example, “it should be set in the 19th century” or “it should feature a remote location.” The chatbot will then return fever‑dream movie sets in the 19th century or fever‑dream movies that also take place in remote locations.
Along with the results, ChatGPT will also provide users with direct Watch on Tubi links, making it possible to jump in and immediately start watching on web and mobile devices.
“At the core of Tubi is a deeply scaled personalization and discovery system, trained on more than 1 billion monthly hours of viewing from over 100 million active users. Recent AI breakthroughs are compounding that advantage, enhancing how Tubi interprets intent, reasons over content, and connects viewers to the right titles faster. This launch brings that system into a conversational interface, making it seamless to go from an idea to the perfect match and content rabbit hole,” added Bidgoli.
