Walmart has confirmed plans to begin offering Peacock Premium as a Walmart+ membership perk. From September 15, new and existing members will be able to redeem their free ad-supported subscription to the streaming service.
This is not the first time Walmart has offered a free subscription as Walmart+ already comes with free Paramount+ Essentials. While Paramount+ isn’t going away, the plan is to offer Peacock Premium to members as an alternative streaming benefit.
Basically, new and existing Walmart+ members will soon be able to choose between a free Peacock Premium (with ads) subscription and a free Paramount+ (with ads) subscription.
“The additional option of Peacock Premium adds even more value and more choice to our membership, without raising the price,” said Deepak Maini, SVP of Walmart+. “By offering the ability to switch between two top-tier video streaming services, we’re empowering our members to customize their entertainment experience and enjoy significant savings. This is just one of the many ways we’re evolving Walmart+ to meet the needs and wants of today’s consumer.”
Considering Walmart+ costs $98 a year, signing up to the retailer’s membership program to get access to Peacock Premium will actually be cheaper than signing up to Peacock directly.
The latest Peacock Premium price increase arrived in July, increasing the monthly cost of the ad-supported plan to $10.99, and the cost of the annual plan to $109.99.
“This expanded partnership strengthens our collaboration across the NBCUniversal enterprise with Walmart and gives Walmart+ members seamless access to the wide variety of Peacock’s entertainment offering,” said Matt Schnaars, President, Platform Distribution & Partnerships, NBCUniversal. “Whether it’s live sports like the upcoming NBA season, Sunday Night Football, Emmy-winning reality series like The Traitors, original series including The Paper, or blockbuster films, Peacock has something for everyone.”
For those less interested in paying for an annual subscription, Walmart+ is also available on a monthly basis, priced at $12.95 a month.
Although $2 more than signing up to Peacock on a monthly basis, Walmart+ membership comes with a number of other additional benefits, including free same-day grocery deliveries, free shipping with no order minimum, discounts on gas, early access to deals, and more.
