YES Network has released a new app allowing consumers to directly stream content from the channel, including watching New York Yankees, Brooklyn Nets, NYC FC and New York Liberty games live. This is yet another way to engage with live sports over the internet, although it won’t solve any problems related to access to YES Network.
Besides the more general issue of device support, there are a number of channels that have become harder to access in recent months. This is particularly true for any local channels and regional sports networks. In fact, this includes YES Network, considering YouTube TV dropped the popular channel from its lineup in 2020. Only for Hulu Live TV to do exactly the same a few months later.
YES Network announced the launch of the new app today, explaining that, in addition to the live games access, it also provides the option to watch additional programming, including pre and post-game entertainment. This is all in addition to access to a number of shows from the YES Network archives.
In terms of the device support, the app appears to be readily available, as it can be downloaded on Android and iOS for mobile users, as well as on Android TV devices, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. As a result, many device users should be able to find and download the new app by simply searching for “YES Network” in their respective app store, or by sending the app to a device via the web version of the app store.
New app won’t fix YES streaming issues
To be clear, the new app is just an additional way to access YES Network and especially while away from home. Although TV platforms apps are also available, users will still encounter some of the same access issues, due to the apps requiring the user to sign in with an existing live TV subscription.
Essentially, this is a TV Everywhere app and if a consumer has access to YES Network through their live TV subscription, then they will likely be able to authenticate their subscription, log in, and watch. For any live TV customers that currently don’t get YES Network with their subscription, they won’t be able to use the app to watch live games or stream any of the additional content that’s on offer.
