Vizio WatchFree Plus on mobile

You can now watch Vizio‘s WatchFree+ streaming service on a mobile phone, removing the need to have access to a Vizio smart TV. As WatchFree+ is a completely free streaming service, it can be a good option for those looking to save on the cost of streaming.

While a Vizio TV was a major requirement for accessing the free streaming service, the company has now added WatchFree+ to the main Vizio mobile app. This is the same app that allows existing users to control the company’s TVs and soundbars.

This also now allows smartphone owners in the United States to access WatchFree+ by downloading the iPhone app from the App Store and the Android mobile app from the Google Play Store. Using WatchFree+ does require a Vizio account, so new users will need to sign up for a free account after installing the app.

For those with a Vizio TV, and already using WatchFree+, there are some additional benefits with the latest version of the mobile app. Most notably, the ability to continue watching where you left off after switching from the TV app to the mobile app, or vice versa.

Existing Vizio mobile app users will also notice that the latest update introduces a new a Home tab. The new additional allows users to organize and launch their favorite apps on their Vizio TV (from the phone), while also exploring TV show and movie recommendations.

If completely new to the service, WatchFree+ is home to more than 300 live channels, including 40 local channels. Similar to Pluto TV, Samsung TV Plus and Tubi, these are curated channels and not channels you would typically pay for with a live TV plan. What’s more, with new channels added on a regular basis, the overall number of live channels continues to grow over time.

On top of the live experience, WatchFree+ users also have access to a wide selection of on-demand programming. Vizio also recently improved the user experience through the addition of a new information screen, the ability to favorite channels, and closed captions.
