The DirecTV 4K channel (channel 104) has now started showing up in the DirecTV Stream guide on some devices, suggesting the rolling out of 4K content is getting closer, if not already in the process of going live.

The first indications that 4K on DirecTV was getting closer surfaced last week, when subscribers began noticing that 4K live sports listings were appearing in the Guide section. In addition to these individual events, it was already known that DirecTV was reading dedicated 4K channels as well.

One of those channels, DirecTV 4K (channel 104) now appears to have gone live for some subscribers, showing documentaries and other content. According to this Reddit post and this DirecTV forum post, the DirecTV 4K channel became available to watch within the past twenty-four hours.

While it currently remains to be seen just how widespread the availability of the 4K channel is, one of those users confirmed that they are a DirecTV Stream subscriber and signed up to the Ultimate package. The same user has also confirmed that they are currently using DirecTV’s Osprey box.

In contrast, the other post notes that the subscriber (also DirecTV Stream and signed up to the Ultimate package) is using the new Gemini Air streaming player. According to this user, the same channel is currently unavailable on their Gemini/Osprey box.

Whether these posts mean the 4K channel is currently only available on DirecTV’s own devices, and not other streaming players and devices, remains to be seen, but it is a possibility. At the very least, the company’s own devices do seem to be first in line.

For reference, DirecTV and DirecTV subscribers can expect to see “shows, original series and documentaries” twenty-four hours a day on channel 104, according to a DirecTV help post.

As mentioned, channel 104 is only one of the 4K channels that are expected to become available as the rollout continues. 4K live sporting events are scheduled to be shown on channel 105 and 106, while 4K pay-per-view movies are set to go live on channel 107 and 108. Channel 1104 is also listed as a dedicated “4K On Demand” channel.
