DirecTV plans to roll out an update to fix an issue where the down button no longer acts as a shortcut to the Guide on Roku devices. The issue first surfaced following an update that rolled out last week.

The previous update was a pretty major one as it introduced a new look and design. After initially rolling out to Gemini devices earlier in the month, the new app experience began rolling out to Roku devices for DirecTV and DirecTV Stream subscribers on Friday.

Immediately after rolling out, users started noticing that the update not only added the new interface, but also removed the ability to press the down button to quickly access the Guide. The change meant that users had to first press back on the remote to access the new menu, and then select Guide from the list of options.

While this was first thought to be part of the changes introduced with the new design and left-side navigation menu, that appears not to be the case. A DirecTV Community Support post from yesterday confirmed that it is an issue and one that’s due to be fixed via another update.

We do have a fix ready and are working on the rollout to our customers. Thank you for your patience.”

While good news for those affected by this issue, it currently remains unclear when the update is scheduled to become available. In reply to this question on Reddit, a DirecTV Community Specialist said the following:

Currently, we do not have an estimated time for the update. Please be assured that we are putting in all our efforts to work towards a resolution as soon as possible.”

As it remains unclear when the update will roll out, or even it it will be publicly announced when it does, Roku users may want to regularly check if any updates are available for the DirecTV app and apply them once available.
