DirecTV is making quick moves to expand its selection of live TV packages, with the latest coming in the form of the new MyEntertainment, MyNews, and MiEspañol ‘Genre Packs.’
As these are trimmed down live TV packages, they are all also cheaper than DirecTV’s main live TV plans. For example, the new MyEntertainment plan costs just $34.99 a month, the new MyNews plan costs $39.99 a month, and the new MiEspañol plan costs $34.99 a month.
All three of these new plans are now available through DirecTV Stream. All three are also available without an annual contract, can be changed or canceled at anytime, and it is possible to subscribe to more than one at the same time.
Here’s how DirecTV describes its new ‘Genre Packs.’
MyEntertainment: Hit movies and shows consumers want most, with 43 channels such as A&E, Bravo, Discovery, Food Network, Lifetime, and more, as well as Disney+ and Hulu with ads.
MyNews: U.S. and world news, politics, and weather with 14 national and local channels, including BBC World News, CNBC, CNN, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, Newsmax, and more
MiEspañol: The best Spanish-language programming with 64 channels such as CNN En Español, Discovery En Español, ESPN Deportes, FOX Deportes, SONY Cine, and national Telemundo and Univision feeds, as well as Vix+.
Along with these latest additions, DirecTV has also launched MyCinema and MySports Extra. These new ‘Mini-Packs’ are essentially new add-ons, offering the option to expand the amount of content a subscriber to an existing live TV package has access to for an extra monthly fee.
In terms of the price, the MyCinema add-on costs an additional $9.99 a month and the MySports Extra add-on costs an additional $12.99 a month.
“At DirecTV, we’re breaking up with the one-size-fits-all bloated cable bundles of the past by delivering new ways for consumers to enjoy the content they love at the best value. Our new Genre Packs and Mini-Packs provide lower-priced options, allowing customers to pick and choose what they want to watch and when they want to watch it,” said Vince Torres, chief marketing officer at DirecTV.
The new MyEntertainment, MyNews, and MiEspañol genre packs join the existing MySports package that launched last month. Priced at $69.99 a month, MySports provides access to more than 40 sports and broadcast channels.
Late last year, DirecTV also launched a completely free tier. The FAST-based MyFree DirecTV service offers access to a wide, and continually expanding, variety of free, ad-supported channels.
