Future Google TV Update May Focus More On Trending Content And The Color Blue

Google TV is always a work in progress and a new report now suggests that Google might soon make some additional changes by way of an update. The changes appear to mostly focus on a new trending section and the greater use of the color blue.

The changes would not only affect the Google TV interface used on devices like the Google TV Streamer, but also the Google TV app that’s available on a wide variety of devices.

In terms of trending content, Google appears to be working on a new Hot and New section. This is according to a code reference spotted by Android Authority after digging deeper into an internal beta build of Google TV.

As is often the case with code teardowns like this, many details remain unknown. For example, while the code reference would seem to suggest Google wants to further highlight trending and/or newly released content, it remains to be seen whether this will manifest in yet another filter tab or a greater presence of trending/new content on the Home screen.

Another interesting change that could be on the horizon is the greater emphasis on the color blue. Essentially, Google might be planning to replace the current dark gray accent with more of a blue accent.

A good way to visualize the difference is to think of the various call-to-action buttons dotted throughout the interface. For example, text used for buttons on title pages, like Watch Now or Trailer, may turn blue when hovering over them, instead of the dark gray color that’s in use today.

As the report points out, this change would bring the Google TV interface and app experience in line with the current Google Play app experience. So those interested in a closer look at the greater use of the blue accent can do so by opening up the Google Play app.

Again, these are currently only code and design references noted in an internal beta build of Google TV. While Google does clearly seem to be working on these changes, there is no guarantee that they will roll out soon, if ever, or as described.
