HBO Max Wins Apple’s 2025 ‘Apple TV App of the Year’ Award

Apple has awarded HBO Max with its ‘Apple TV app of the year’ title for 2025. Apple announced the win for Warner Bros. Discovery along with the rest of the winners of this year’s App Store Awards.

While HBO Max is not a new app in general, it has gone through some changes over the years. Most notably the rebrand from Max to HBO Max in mid-2025, following the previous 2023 rebrand from HBO Max to Max.

Regardless of the name, Apple awarded the current version of HBO Max with the title for ‘best Apple TV app of the year’ due to its entertainment lineup and inclusive experience.

“HBO Max offers a more inclusive streaming experience with American Sign Language additions and an expansive entertainment lineup,” Apple said.

HBO Max beat out PBS Kids Video and Super Farming Boy 4K, both of which were previously announced as Apple TV App of the Year category finalists alongside HBO Max.

For those that have yet to give this year’s best Apple TV app a try, the HBO Max app is available to download from the App Store on supported Apple TV players.

The app is also available to download on Apple’s other devices, including iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision.

A subscription costs $10.99 a month with ads and a minimum of $18.49/mo without ads. Subscribers get access to a varied library of content for this monthly price, including HBO Originals like House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Succession, and The White Lotus.

This is in addition to content from other Warner Bros. Discovery properties and brands, including Warner Bros. ID, and Adult Swim, as well as licensed content from the likes of A24 and Studio Ghibli.

HBO Max’s win in 2025 follows F1 TV’s best Apple TV app of the year award in 2024, and Mubi’s win of the same award in 2023.
