LG is now rolling out an upgraded user experience with its new LG Channels 3.0 update. LG Channels is LG’s free streaming service which can be accessed on the company’s smart TVs.

A smart TV-maker offering its own streaming service is not unusual. Samsung provides owners of its TVs with access to Samsung TV Plus, Vizio TV owners have access to WatchFree+, and TCL just recently launched its TCLtv+ streaming service with access to more than 200 FAST channels..

LG Channels has been around for quite a few years now, and the company is now in the process of rolling out a major update to its free streaming service. According to the announcement, LG Channels 3.0 upgrades the experience in multiple ways, including a new UI with improved navigation, more engaging placements for content discovery, and an enhanced channel guide.

At present, the LG Channels 3.0 update is only rolling out in South Korea. However, LG has stated that the upgraded experience is coming to other markets, including the US, starting in October.

Once rolled out to an eligible LG TV, users can expect the new UI to organize content into Home, Live and On Demand pages. According to LG, this three-page design makes it “easier to take advantage of the different services offered on LG’s free content platform.”

Typical of a Home screen, the LG Channels 3.0 Home page will feature a rotating carousel at the top that highlights featured channels, curated collections and a selection of premium on demand content.

For those that tend to prefer to watch live content, the new Live page makes it possible to quickly tune in to channels available to watch through the LG Channels app. The new channel guide can also now be viewed while still watching what’s playing, thanks to a new split-view design that only shows the guide on half of the screen.

Yesterday, LG announced some of the new exclusive content coming to LG Channels in September. The same announcement also confirmed that some of the newest channels to be added to LG Channels in the United States include All Reality WE tv (290), AMC en Español (803), Estrella Games (826), GoTraveler (715). Johnny Carson TV (513), MST3K (520), Portlandia (503), Shout! TV (510), Stories by AMC (1051), and The Walking Dead Universe (229).
