Netflix closed out 2024 with more than 300 million subscribers globally, resulting in a big increase on the year before. With 260 million global members reported for Q4 2023, the service managed to add more than 40 million over the past twelve months.
On a quarter-over-quarter basis, Netflix ended Q3 2024 with 282.7 million global subscribers. Following confirmation of 301.63 million in the most recent quarter, Netflix added almost 20 million subscribers over the last three months of last year.
In the US and Canada, Netflix ended last year with 89.63 million subscribers. This represents an increase of around 9.5 million on the 80.1 million subscribers reported for the fourth quarter of 2023. It is also an increase of more than 15 million on the 74.3 million subscribers reported for the fourth quarter of 2022.
On a quarterly basis, Netflix added almost 5 million subscribers in the US and Canada over the final three months of 2024, up from the 84.8 million reported for the end of the previous quarter.
While 300 million members is a monumental milestone in itself, it is worth noting that Netflix is not including Extra Member accounts in this total. Instead, the total is for standalone subscriptions, with the assumption being the total number of users (in different homes) is even higher.
In terms of the content, Netflix pointed to shows like The Diplomat season 2, Senna, The Empress season 2, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Black Doves, Outer Banks season 4, The Cage, The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, Virgin River season 6, and Squid Game season 2, as all performing well during the fourth quarter of 2024.
This was in addition to movies including Carry-On, Family Pack, Richard Curtis’ That Christmas, Our Little Secret and Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight.
Unfortunately, it now remains unclear when is the next time we will get a subscriber update from Netflix. In April of last year, the company confirmed that it will stop providing quarterly subscriber updates, opting to only confirm “major subscriber milestones” in the future.
