Nvidia has confirmed a Shield TV Software Upgrade 9.2+ hotfix will be released in the next week. Following the rollout of the Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2 upgrade in February, the hotfix is designed to fix a few issues device users might be encountering.
The Shield TV Software Upgrade 9.2+ hotfix will roll out as 33.2.0.322 and addresses the following issues:
- Fixes night mode being skipped when DAP is ON
- Fixes Dolby Vision content stutters when frame match feature is enabled
- Fixes Match Content Audio Resolution for USB DAC
- Adds back HQS / Maxrate option for USB audio
- USB TV Tuner fix with Live Channel app
- Fixes playback issues in Plex when using AAC 5.1 audio
If a Shield TV owner is experiencing any of these issues, then it may be worth considering signing up for the rollout. However, a hotfix isn’t as reliable as a normal update, and Nvidia notes there are some caveats to the process.
For example, Nvidia explains that HD Homerun DRM channels won’t work and Shield TV users won’t be able to install the Disney+ app from the Play Store, or update the Disney+ app if it is already installed on the device.
To be fair, these caveats are general Nvidia caveats, and announced with each of its Shield TV hotfixes. So while it remains unclear whether any of them are likely to impact an individual device, they are things to be aware of.
For those less keen on signing up for the hotfix, especially as there’s no way to roll back the update, the other option is to simply wait for the next official release.
