Peacock’s Teacher Discount Helps You Save On Premium — Here’s How It Works

Peacock‘s teacher discount lowers the cost of a Premium subscription down to just $6.99 a month, resulting in a saving of $4 each month on the usual cost. If you’re currently considering signing up, here’s a closer look at how the discount works.

Peacock’s Teacher Discount Is Available to All Teachers

Peacock’s teacher discount is available to all teachers, so it doesn’t matter whether they are working for a public or private institution.

To qualify for the discount you must be currently employed as a teacher, faculty or staff member at a public or private K-12 school or university in the United States.

As is the case with Peacock’s student discount, the teacher discount requires verification. Also similar to the student discount, Peacock utilizes SheerID for the verification process.

Verification requires providing some personal information, including an email address, first name, last name, date of birth, and school.

Once teacher status has been verified through SheerID, the teacher will receive a promo code for the discount. The promo code can then be added to the Have a promo code? field when signing up through the Peacock website.

If you already have a Peacock account, the promo code can be applied through Plans & Payments in the Account section of the settings.

5. Sign up using the promo code

For those already paying for Peacock Premium, there’s currently no way to transfer the discount to an existing subscription.

In situations like this, teachers may want to consider canceling their paid plan and waiting for the current billing period to end.

Once their subscription has lapsed, the former subscriber will then be able to subscribe again at the discounted price by applying the promo code through Plans & Payments in the Account section of the settings.

Teacher Discounts Need to Be Renewed Each Year

The initial discount only applies to the first 12 months of a subscription. After which, the Premium plan auto-renews at the usual rate, currently $10.99 a month.

However, teachers can continue to renew their discount each year, and for as long as they remain a teacher.

Renewing the discount works in the same way as signing up the first time, with teachers required to reconfirm their teacher status.

Once status has been reverified, the discount is reapplied for the next 12 months again, bringing the price of the Premium plan down to $6.99/mo again.

That’s assuming no price increase rolls through. If one does, then the monthly price a teacher pays may increase, although it will still be less than signing up without the teacher discount.

Teachers Save on Premium, Not Premium Plus

Peacock actually offers two different Premium tiers — Premium and Premium Plus.

While both Premium tiers offer access to the same on demand catalog, including Peacock Originals, there are some notable differences between the two plans.

Here’s a brief overview of those differences.

Unfortunately, if you do want to stream library content without ads, or access to your local NBC station, then there is no way to save on the monthly cost with the teacher discount.

If, however, you are okay sitting through ad breaks and don’t need access to the live NBC channel, this discount can be a good way to save on the Peacock Premium plan.
