Peacock ended the third quarter of 2024 with 36 million paid subscribers. The latest subscriber update confirms an increase of 3 million subscribers on the 33 million reported for the second quarter of the year.
Considering Peacock closed out the third quarter of last year with 28 million paid subscribers, the streaming service has increased its subscriber base by roughly 8 million over the past year.
One of the major third quarter highlights for Peacock was the Paris Olympics. As Peacock was the official streaming home of the Olympic games, the streaming service saw good subscriber and revenue growth during the games.
“We delivered an incredibly successful Paris Summer Olympics that helped fuel double-digit percentage growth in Peacock revenue and paid subscribers and contributed to NBC’s #1 ranking for the 2023-2024 season,” said Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Corporation.
The third quarter also resulted in a price increase for Peacock, which likely helped with the quarterly revenue increase Comcast reported today. The cost of the Premium plan increased to $7.99 a month (up $2) and the cost of the Premium Plus plan increased to $13.99 a month (also up $2).
Comcast also confirmed an increase in operating expenses during the most recent quarter. According to Comcast, the increase was primarily driven by increased sports programming costs, including the Paris Olympics, and higher programming costs at Peacock.
