Existing Shudder subscribers are probably already aware that the price of their subscription increased recently. For those that have been considering signing up to the service, a subscription now costs $2 more each month.
As far as we can tell, the price increase took effect on April 1st, 2025 for new subscribers. Prior to this, a subscription in the US and Canada cost $6.99 a month, or $71.88 a year (equal to $5.99/month).
With $2 now added to that price, new and existing subscribers are now paying $8.99 a month, or $89.99 a year (equal to $7.49/month), to stream Shudder’s library of content.
Considering existing subscribers usually get a 30-day grace period with streaming service price increases, we assume the price change took effect on May 1st, 2025 for existing Shudder subscribers. As is usually the case, the exact date an individual subscriber will pay the new higher rate will depend on their individual billing cycle.
While it is unclear why Shudder has opted to increase the price, streaming services normally explain a price increase away as a result of their own increasing costs.
The last time Shudder increased in price was back in August 2023. At that time, the cost of a subscription increased from $5.99 to $6.99 a month. This also resulted in the cost of Shudder’s annual plan increasing from $56.99 to $71.88 a year.

Shudder’s Price Increase Makes AMC+ A Better Choice
For those unaware, it is also possible to access the Shudder library with an AMC+ subscription. As AMC+ offers both ad-supported and ad-free tiers, it is possible to sign up to AMC+ for as little as $6.99 a month.
For those that want to maintain the same ad-free streaming experience they currently get with a standalone Shudder subscription, the ad-free AMC+ plan costs $9.99 a month.
While AMC+ encountered its own price increase at the end of 2024, the cost of the ad-free plan only increased by $1 a month. With Shudder having increased by $2, and offering an ad-free streaming experience, the difference in monthly price between standalone Shudder and the ad-free bundle is now smaller than before.
For that extra $1 a month, AMC+ subscribers get access to a lot more content, including full access to Sundance Now and IFC Films Unlimited, as well as access to shows from AMC, BBC America, IFC, and Sundance TV.
