Roku is in the process of making it easier for Google TV users to find content available to stream via The Roku Channel. For starters, the Live section of the Google TV interface will soon include 100s of free, ad-supported channels from The Roku Channel.
In addition to FAST channel access, the Google TV integration will also make it possible for users to search Google TV for content and see recommendations from The Roku Channel, where available. Roku says the full integration will be complete in the coming weeks and include the following.
Search Integration: Streamers can now search for The Roku Channel programming on Google TV, making it easier to discover free content.
Browse through over 500 FAST channels: The Roku Channel will populate more than 500 FAST channels into Google TV’s “live” Tab – Google TV’s hub for free live TV. This includes a wide variety of free programming across news, sports, cooking, DIY, music, and more.
Jump back into The Roku Channel: Jump back into The Roku Channel TV shows and movies you love, right from the home screen.
Recommended Content: Browse and discover The Roku Channel content in new rows such as “Featured on The Roku Channel,” “Free live TV” and more, right from the Google TV home Screen.
It is not surprising that The Roku Channel is beginning to play nicer with other platforms, including Google TV. While The Roku Channel first started life as a feature exclusive to Roku devices, the free-and-paid platform has continually grown over time. Making it easier to access the service on more platforms is only likely to further increase the userbase in the future.
As a reminder, a number of premium subscriptions are currently discounted through The Roku Channel for Black Friday, including Max, MGM+, Paramount+, Peacock, and Starz, among others.
