Vantiva has sold 22 million Android TV set-top boxes so far. Along with announcing the sales milestone, and citing Omdia research, the company claims it held a 25% Android TV set-top box market share at the end of 2023.
Android TV first launched back in 2014 with the release of Google’s own Nexus Player. Since then, the platform has gone on to be adopted by many third-party companies and can also be found powering set-top boxes from various pay-TV operators. Vantiva is one of the companies that supplies set-top boxes to some of these pay-TV operators. For example, the AirTV products associated with Dish and Sling TV were built by Vantiva while it was operating as Technicolor.
According to Vantiva, the company has rolled out more than 30 upgrades since deploying its first Android TV device back in 2015, and continues to work on developing the platform. In 2022, for example, the company announced Vantiva Soundscape, its next-gen Android TV player that combines a set-top box and soundbar in a single device.
“Vantiva has been a significant partner in bringing the Android TV experience to customers around the world,” said Shalini GovilPai, vice president of TV, Google. “Vantiva reached an impressive milestone, and we’re looking forward to continuing to bring innovation and entertainment to viewers for years to come.”
Earlier this year, Vantiva announced completion of its acquisition of Home Networks from CommScope. As Home Networks also works within the connected home market, including developing set-top boxes and streaming players, the move is expected to further increase the company’s portfolio and client base.
Even more recently, Canada’s Telus, in partnership with 3 Screen Solutions (3SS), selected Vantiva’s Android TV-powered 4K Ultra HD Jade set-top box as the basis for its next-generation Telus entertainment service.
