Warner Bros. Discovery ended 2024 with almost 116.9 million DTC (HBO, Discovery+ and Max) subscribers. The latest update confirms a healthy increase on the previous quarter and 2024 as a whole.
Following what the company described as the “largest ever quarterly growth in subscribers since the launch of Max,” Warner Bros. Discovery ended the third quarter of last year with 110.5 million DTC subscribers.
While the company didn’t add quite as many as the 7.2 million subscribers added during the previous quarter, Warner Bros. Discovery still managed to add another 6.4 million global subscribers during the final three months of the year.
Considering Warner Bros. Discovery ended 2023 with 97.7 million subscribers, the company also managed to add more than 19 million subscribers over the full calendar year.
Although the company doesn’t provide specific numbers for each of its DTC streaming services, Max is expected to be the largest contributor to the growth, and especially in international markets. Over the past year, Max has expanded to more territories and is expected to continue to expand to more regions in 2025. At the end of next month, for example, Max is due to go live in Australia.
Following the launch in Australia, Warner Bros. Discovery also plans to launch Max in more markets, including Germany and Italy in the first quarter of 2026, and the UK and Ireland by the second quarter of 2026.
“In 2024, we launched Max in more than 70 countries, added 19 million DTC subscribers(1), and generated nearly $700 million in DTC Adjusted EBITDA. Based on our strong momentum, we expect the DTC segment to deliver approximately $1.3 billion of Adjusted EBITDA in 2025,” Warner Bros. Discovery said in its Q4 2024 Shareholder Letter.
