Warner Bros. Discovery ended the first quarter of 2025 with a total of 122.3 million streaming subscribers. The number includes those paying for HBO, Max and Discovery+.
Although Warner Bros. Discovery used to provide detailed subscriber information on each of these services, the company now only provides an overall streaming subscriber total.
In spite of no information on how each service is doing at the individual level, the 122.3 million represents an increase of 5.3 million on the 116.9 million reported for the end of 2024, and an increase of 22.6 million on the first quarter of last year.
The 122.3 million subscribers also puts the company closer to its 150 million goal. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery explained how it saw a clear path to 150 million subscribers before the end of 2026.
Following the latest quarterly results, the company is now five million subscribers closer to reaching that major milestone by the end of next year.
“We will drive progress towards our goal of surpassing 150 million global subscribers by the end of 2026 through the strength of our content pipeline, our continuously improving product, as well as the effectiveness of various distribution and marketing strategies,” the company said in its Q1 2025 Shareholder Letter.
In terms of domestic subscribers (U.S. and Canada), Warner Bros. Discovery ended the first quarter with 57.6 million subscribers, an increase of 500,000 on the fourth quarter of 2024, and an increase of around 4.9 million on the 52.7 million reported for the first quarter of last year.
With 64.6 million international subscribers reported for the most recent quarter, the company saw an increase of 4.8 million international subscribers during the first three moths of the year.
The international subscriber update also confirms a year-over-year increase of 17.7 million subscribers.
Over the past year, Warner Bros. Discovery has continually been unlocking access to Max in more locations around the world, and it is this expansion that has helped the subscriber base to grow at the rate it has.
“Over the next few years, expanding Max’s global footprint remains a key priority. Max recently launched in Australia and Turkey, two of the more than a dozen new markets targeted for 2025. By the end of this year, we anticipate Max to be available in over 85 markets globally,” the company said.
Warner Bros. Discovery also reported a 35% increase in advertising revenue, driven by an increase in ad-lite subscribers.
