The new Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) is likely to begin hitting markets soon. While the company has yet to officially announce the new Google TV player, Xiaomi is now listing the latest model on its website, confirming all of the specs and features in the process.
Following the launch of the Mi Box S in 2018, Xiaomi released the Xiaomi TV Box S (2nd Gen) in 2023. At that time, the most notable upgrade on the original was the switch from Android TV to Google TV. With Google TV now widely available, it is no surprise that the newest streaming player from Xiaomi will also run on Google TV.
In terms of the main specifications, the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) will come loaded with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. The 4K streaming player will be powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core CPU along with an ARM G310 V2 GPU.
For connectivity, the new streaming player will support Wi-Fi 6 (2.4GHz/ 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2, and come equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port and USB 2.0 port. Unlike some other newer streaming players, an HDMI cable will be included in the box.
The remote also looks mostly the same, with the main difference being the voice assistant button no longer utilizes the older Google Assistant branding.
Compared to the Google TV Streamer, which succeeded the Chromecast with Google TV lineup, the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) looks like a fairly minor upgrade overall. Most notably, the boost from 8GB storage on the 2nd Gen to 32GB on the 3rd Gen is where buyers will experience a major difference.
Buyers can also expect a boost in performance in general, thanks to the inclusion of a more powerful processor, a switch from the 2nd Gen’s Mali G31 MP2 GPU to the newer and more efficient G310 V2 GPU, and support for WiFi 6.
There’s also a boost in the audio department, with the second-generation player’s support for DTS-HD having been replaced with support for DTS:X.
Unfortunately, there are no details available yet in terms of the price or availability. As a result, it remains unclear how much this new Xiaomi streaming player will cost, or whether it will be available to buy in Europe and the U.S.
