Apple TV+ will be available as a Prime Video Channel in the U.S. later this month, offering homes another way to sign up and watch Apple‘s lineup of original programming, including The Morning Show, Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent, Severance, Silo, and Hijack, among others.
While neither Amazon nor Apple have confirmed exactly when the Prime Video add-on will go live, the channel is confirmed to be arriving some time in October. Amazon has also confirmed that the Prime Video Channel will cost an additional $9.99 a month, which is the same price Apple charges when signing up directly through the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ website.
From Apple’s perspective, opening up access through Prime Video could prove to be a good way to build out the subscriber base. The move also further confirms Apple’s intention to make access to its streaming service more widely available.
Earlier this year, Apple struct a deal with Comcast to have Apple TV+ bundled with Netflix and Peacock at a discounted price.
“We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to as many viewers as possible,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Services. “We’re thrilled that Prime Video will now offer Apple TV+, giving viewers an incredible breadth of viewing options.”
From Amazon’s perspective, the addition of Apple TV+ will further help to establish Prime Video as a one-stop shop for streaming.
“As we continue to expand our offering and make it easy for customers to personalize their streaming experience directly in one app, we are proud to welcome Apple TV+ and its popular and critically-acclaimed shows, films and events to Prime Video,” said Mike Hopkins, Senior Vice President and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.
While the availability of Apple TV+ through Prime Video is only going live in the United States this month, Amazon has confirmed that the Prime Video Channel will become available in additional territories in the future.
