DirecTV has confirmed it will carry the new Chicago Sports Network (CHSN). Announced earlier this year, CHSN will begin broadcasting Chicago Blackhawks and Bulls games in the Chicagoland region from October 2024, and White Sox games from March 2025.
Chicago Sports Network will be accessible for free over the air on Channel 62.2 and Channel 62.3. As explained earlier this week, the network is utilizing two channels to ensure it has the ability to broadcast games simultaneously when two teams are playing at the same time.
With Chicago Sports Network and DirecTV having now agreed a multiyear distribution deal, DirecTV is one of the first major live TV providers to confirm it will carry the channel. The agreement also means the sports network will be available via DirecTV and DirecTV Stream across most of Illinois, Iowa and parts of Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.
“We have always prided ourselves on being a sports leader and intend to remain at the forefront,” said DirecTV Chief Content Officer Rob Thun. “The most important element in the media landscape today is consumer choice, and that means ensuring the most loyal fans can always connect with their favorite teams, while other homes with equally as avid interests can avoid those extra costs.”
As this is a regional sports network, access to Chicago Sports Network will only be available to DirecTV and DirecTV Stream subscribers signed up to Choice or higher.
If considering signing up to DirecTV Stream to access to new sports network, or upgrading from the cheapest Entertainment plan, Choice costs a minimum of $108.99 a month. That price is due to increase to a minimum of $114.99 a month once October’s price increase kicks in early next month.
Once the network does go live, Choice and higher subscribers will be able to find CHSN on channel 665 through DirecTV Stream, DirecTV via Internet, and DirecTV via Satellite. The network will also be available to U-verse customers on channels 1741(HD)/741(SD).
