DirecTV Stream is set to increase in price on October 6, 2024. While we predicted DirecTV Stream would be the next live TV service to increase in price, we had expected the price increase to arrive in November. Instead, it is landing a month earlier, and exactly one month from today.
Once the price change takes effect next month, the cost of the cheapest Entertainment package will increase to $86.99 a month. Considering Entertainment currently costs $79.99, this results in a $7 increase.
The Choice package, popular with those wanting access to regional sports networks, will increase to $114.99 a month, resulting in a $6 price increase. Moving up the price ladder, Ultimate will increase to $129.99 a month ($10 more) and Premier will increase to $169.99 a month ($5 more).
Here’s a recap of those changes
Package | From Oct. 6 | Increase |
---|---|---|
Entertainment | $86.99 | $7 |
Choice | $114.99 | $6 |
Ultimate | $129.99 | $10 |
Premier | $169.99 | $5 |
With a $10 price increase, it would seem that Ultimate is the worst affected overall. However, with Entertainment increasing to $87 a month, DirecTV Stream’s cheapest package is set to become one of the most expensive base live TV plans around.
Following the price increase, Entertainment will cost $14 more than YouTube TV’s base plan, and also $4 more than the cost of Hulu Live TV, and that’s after Disney’s October price increase takes effect.
Service | Cheapest |
---|---|
DirecTV Stream | $86.99* |
Fubo | $79.99 |
Hulu Live TV | $82.99** |
Sling TV | $40 |
YouTube TV | $72.99 |
The confirmation of the price increase also comes at a time when DirecTV is actively involved in a dispute with Disney. A dispute that recently escalated to the point where Disney-owned channels, including ABC and ESPN, were removed from all of DirecTV Stream’s live TV packages.
While it remains to be seen whether this latest price increase is a sign that a deal is any closer, new and existing DirecTV Stream subscribers will soon be paying even more for their live TV packages.
