DirecTV Stream and DirecTV via Internet subscribers now have access to user profiles, making it easier to manage the live TV service in homes where multiple people are sharing the same subscription.
Confirmation that DirecTV Stream was planning to roll out user profiles came earlier this year, when the feature started showing up for beta users. As this was an unannounced feature, it remained unclear exactly when profiles would become available to the general user base.
With the new feature now officially available, DirecTV Stream and DirecTV via Internet users can immediately create and access user profiles through the website. User profile support is also now available on Amazon Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Android mobile, Android TV, Apple TV, Gemini, Gemini Air, iPhone, iPad, and Roku devices.
In addition to the primary profile, another four profiles can be created for a total of five. While all the additional profiles can be further edited or deleted as and when needed, the primary profile cannot be edited or deleted.
After adding new profile, users will gain access to a customized TV experience, including access to their own favorited shows and sports teams, DVR recordings, and customized homepage carousel recommendations.
The arrival of the sought-after feature comes at a turbulent time for the live TV service. Embroiled in a dispute with Disney, DirecTV and DirecTV Stream subscribers recently lost access to a number of popular Disney-owned channels. DirecTV has also confirmed that its live TV packages are due to increase in price next month.
Whether the ability to add additional profiles will make up for the lost channels or price increase, it is still a feature many subscribers have been waiting for.
