In somewhat unexpected news, DirecTV launched three new ‘genre packs’ this morning, offering consumers a way to subscribe to a slimmed down live TV package at a cheaper price than usual.
One of these new plans is the MyEntertainment package. Priced at $34.99 a month, MyEntertainment provides access to more than 40 entertainment channels, including A&E, Bravo, Discovery, FX, Food Network, and HGTV, among others.
If all that was not enough, DirecTV’s new MyEntertainment plan also includes Disney+ Hulu Bundle Basic at no additional cost. In other words, MyEntertainment subscribers also get access to ad-supported Disney+ and ad-supported Hulu as part of their live TV plan.
Sweetening things more, DirecTV has confirmed that the MyEntertainment package will also include Max as well, and again, at no additional cost. While DirecTV hasn’t specified exactly when Max will be added, the company says it is due to be included in its new entertainment plan soon.
As it is the ‘Max Basic With Ads’ tier that DirecTV plans to add to its entertainment plan, subscribers will get access to the ad-supported version of Max.
For reference, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed this week that subscribers to the Max ‘with ads’ plan will lose access to live sports (via the B/R Sports add-on) and news (via the CNN Max add-on) at the end of March.
Considering the standalone Disney+, Hulu and Max streaming bundle costs a minimum of $16.99 a month, MyEntertainment subscribers will get access to the additional 40+ entertainment channels for less than $20 more.
